xcomponent is designed for a different purpose than web-components:

  • Sandboxing javascript and UI in an iframe so they don’t interfere with the parent page
  • Displaying privileged content that the other domain should not have access to
  • Accepting privileged form fields, like login credentials, that the other domain should not have access to

There’s no reason what’s inside the iframe shouldn’t be a web-component. But to my knowledge web-components don’t really help in solving the above problems.
